Constituency-wise Ranking of District Rahim Yar Khan

Introduction

To access the state of education in district Rahim Yar Khan, education statistics were analyzed at constituency level. Based on this data, all the provincial constituencies in Rahim Yar Khan were ranked on educational quality as well as the state of basic facilities in the schools. So far three bi-annual constituency-wise ranking card have been published to track the education-related progress of the district. In this ranking card, all the constituencies of district Rahim Yar Khan have been ranked. These include PP-285, PP-286, PP-287, PP-288, PP-289, PP-290, PP-291, PP-292, PP-293, PP-294, PP-295, PP-296 and PP-297.

Objectives

The purpose of ranking the provincial constituencies is to support the public representatives and local politicians on provision of quality education in their respective constituencies. This helps them in taking substantial steps to curtail educational deficiencies and address the lack of basic facilities in the schools. The ranking cards also advise the general citizens of the constituency so that they can effectively put their demands for providing quality education and addressing potential hurdles in front of their elected representatives. This is expected to resolve most of the issues in educational system at constituency level.

Ranking Methodology

Provincial constituencies have been ranked in relation to two broad categories:

1. Quality of Education (Education Score)

Data on state of education in the schools of each of the constituencies was been collected. The indicators used in this regard include results of Class 5, Class 8 and Class 10 in percentage terms, teachers’ presence (percent), students’ attendance (percent) and cleanliness of school and students. Weighted average of all the seven indicators provides a unique score for each constituency.

2. Availability of Basic Facilities in the Schools (School Score)

For school score, statistics on availability of basic facilities in the schools have been used. These basic facilities include availability of boundary wall, drinking water, toilets and electricity in the schools. Weighted average of the percentage of schools having these basic facilities is used as the school score for each constituency.

It is pertinent to mention that only government data sources have been used for this analysis including Programme Monitoring and Implementation Unit (PMIU), Punjab Examination Commission (PEC) and the relevant Education Board.
